SafeBack - Licensing

With the release of SafeBack 3.0 we have tightened the software licensing to better protect our investment and ownership in the technology. This change should not affect our clients but it will require the signing of a new license agreement. Our license is still based on a per user basis and the name of the licensed software user is embedded in the software. This protects NTI from illegal copying of the software and it also helps document the software processes, etc. NTI needs a mechanism to stop software piracy and we want to avoid the use of restrictive software dongles. Therefore, we have chosen to license our SafeBack 3.0 through a written software license agreement which restricts the sharing and illegal copying of the SafeBack 3.0 software and SafeBack documentation. However, it does not restrict the exchange of SafeBack 3.0 files between licensed users of the software, law firms, courts and the owners of the data contained within the SafeBack 3.0 image files.

It is NTI's intention to restrict the unauthorized copying and sharing of the software. It is also our intent to eliminate the unauthorized translation and conversion of the SafeBack file format by other software companies/developers. The SafeBack 3.0 file format is NTI's intellectual property and it is important that SafeBack 3.0 files are accurate. For obvious reasons, NTI cannot stand behind the accuracy of a SafeBack 3.0 file which was created by a program other than SafeBack 3.0. If the conversion/creation of a SafeBack 3.0 file (by non-NTI owned software) was not done correctly, then a serious evidence problem could result and SafeBack 3.0 would mistakenly be blamed for the problem. Therefore, software developers are not authorized to access, translate or convert the SafeBack 3.0 file format or any other SafeBack file format without written permission from NTI. In this regard, NTI is willing to work with software developers and other computer forensics software companies. Access libraries are available which accurately translate the contents of the SafeBack 3.0 file format. However, the illegal use of the software or the SafeBack trademark will not be tollerated by NTI and legal consequences could result. If you have questions concerning the SafeBack 3.0 license, please contact NTI.
