1 Day Computer Security Review Course

At Your Site or Ours

NTI has supported classified government agencies since its creation in 1996. In fact, the very first NTI training course was held and customized for a classified U. S. intelligence agency. Since that time, special forensic tools have been developed by NTI for use in classified and corporate security reviews and assessments. NTI has also developed specialized tools to securely eliminate data associated with accidental "data spills" or unauthorized storage of sensitive or classified data on computer storage devices. These tools have been tested and certified by the U. S. Department of Defense for use in computer security reviews.

Course Description:

This unique course was created for NTI's clients who deal with classified and/or sensitive computer data. The training slots are restricted to individuals who have a demonstrated need for such training, e.g., military, government and Fortune 1000 corporations. This course is not open to the general public because it covers government security weaknesses and procedures for the identification of security weaknesses.

DOS, Windows, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP-based personal computers and notebook computers were not designed to be secure. This course deals with the inherent security weaknesses of these computer systems and also in the use of specialized computer forensic tools which are used to find "computer security leakage". The unique course is geared for computer security specialists, internal auditors and others who evaluate computer data from a computer security risk perspective. Please note that this course is not appropriate for individuals who have a desire to learn about computer evidence processing. If you have a desire to learn about computer evidence processing, you should consider taking NTI's popular 5 Day Computer Forensics Course. That course covers computer evidence processing and computer related investigations. It also covers computer security issues and computer incident responses that may ultimately result in litigation or referral to law enforcement agencies.

With the advent of the personal computer and the popularity of word processing systems, E-Mail, electronic spreadsheets, database applications and computer accounting packages, documents have move from paper to floppy diskettes and computer hard drives. Unlike paper documents, computer documents can exist as intact files or as fragments of the original file. They can be stored in bizarre locations, and even in multiple locations that are beyond the reach or knowledge of most computer users. Such data can be the source of significant computer security risk in the form of Ambient Computer Data. This is a hands-on course and the participant will leave the course with a good knowledge of:

Software Provided with Course:

The participant will also leave the course with copies of the following software which will be licensed for their exclusive use:

The participant will receive hands-on instruction in the use of all of these tools and they will leave the class with a full understanding of the issues tied to the use of these powerful tools. Be aware that this training course is ideal for 'train the trainer' situations involving government agencies who have purchased site licenses for NTI's DoD certified tools.

Prerequisite Computer Experience:

Individuals desiring to take this course should have a basic knowledge of DOS and Windows. In-depth programming or computer networking experience is not necessary. However, to fully grasp the concepts covered in the course, it is helpful if the participant is experienced in computer use, security reviews and related computing concepts. This is a hands-on course and each participant should be comfortable using DOS from the command line. Basic DOS commands will not be covered in class!
