Many popular software applications allow computer users to password protect files containing sensitive data and information. In some cases, the password protection merely blocks access to the data. In other cases sophisticated data encryption is used to scramble the data. The current version 2.0 recovers passwords from files secured with:

Compression utilities (archivers)

• ZIP (PKZip, WinZip etc)
• RAR (WinRAR)
• ARJ (WinArj)
• ACE (WinACE)

The encryption methods used in these archives are relatively strong, so the password can be recovered using brute-force and dictionary attacks. However, they have been effectively optimized for speed: on 1GHz CPU, the software tests about fifteen million passwords per second (or about a billion passwords per minute) for WinZip archives. Also, guaranteed decryption (usually, within the hour) of WinZip archives with 5+ encrypted files) is available; it works regardless the password complexity and length. The program also features known-plaintext attack for ZIP and ARJ archives, that allow to decrypt ZIP or ARJ archive in just a few minutes if at least one file from the archive is available.

Most password can be recovered (or removed) instantly, except Word and Excel 97/2000/XP "open" password. For that kind of protection, effective brute-force and dictionary attacks have been implemented.

The software is able to decrypt protected Adobe Acrobat PDF files, which have "owner" password set, preventing the file from editing (changing), printing, selecting text and graphics (and copying them into the Clipboard), or adding/changing annotations and form fields (in any combination). Decryption is being done instantly. Decrypted file can be opened in any PDF viewer (e.g. Adobe Acrobat Reader) without any restrictions -- i.e. with edit/copy/print functions enabled. All versions of Adobe Acrobat (including 5.x, which features 128-bit encryption) are supported. Besides, it can search for "owner" and "user" passwords with brute-force and dictionary attacks, effectively optimized for speed. Finally, it has the Key search attack, which guarantees the decryption of PDF 1.3 files (Acrobat 4.x or older) regardless the password length, by trying all possible 40-bit encryption keys (it takes about 15-20 days on PIII computer).
